JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

As a probation officer, you will be responsible for conditionally released clients under supervision as well as clients sentenced to probation. You will manage your own cases and will have a lot of conversations and client contact in your daily work. The probation service is also responsible for intensive supervision with electronic monitoring, so-called ankle bracelets, community service, youth supervision, and clients serving time in prison.

The work within probation includes conducting risk and needs assessments and establishing plans for enforcement. Some probation officers also work with investigations and lead treatment programs for clients. A large part of our work is conducted according to the KRIMSTICS method, which combines structured risk assessments with a conversational method based on cognitive behavioral therapy. Your tasks will also include conducting personal investigations and providing opinions to the court and suggesting appropriate sanctions, which means that administration and documentation are a significant part of the work in addition to client conversations.

QUALIFICATIONS

We are looking for someone who is secure, stable, and enjoys working structured according to legislation. You are comfortable in client-facing conversations and have a good understanding of how people absorb knowledge and adapt your way of conveying messages based on the recipient's conditions. For the position of probation officer, it is required that you have good judgment, can work independently and take initiatives, as well as have a good ability to collaborate. As a person, you are flexible, engaged, see opportunities in the work, and have a structured and quality-conscious approach. You have a good ability to prioritize even during periods of higher workload.

To thrive and succeed in your role, it is important that you share the fundamental values of the Swedish Prison and Probation Service regarding a humane view of humanity, respect for the individual, and belief in the potential for human development. You are also aware of and understand how background, culture, and group affiliation affect yourself and others. Furthermore, you are expected to contribute to ensuring that everyone is treated equally with your approach. We place great emphasis on personal suitability.

We are looking for someone who has:

• A university degree (at least at the bachelor's level), preferably in behavioral science, social work, criminology, social sciences, or law, or other academic education combined with experience deemed relevant by the Swedish Prison and Probation Service
• Good ability to express yourself well in spoken and written Swedish

It is an advantage if you have:

• Work experience in corrections, client-facing work, social care, psychiatry, or health and social care
• Experience in public authority exercise
• Experience in investigative work focusing on risk and needs assessments
• Experience in documentation and case management
• Experience in security work
• Relevant language skills
• Driving license (B)

OTHER

We have high demands on our employees' security and confidentiality awareness. A security check will precede the employment decision. Some positions are classified in security class, and a security review with a background check will be conducted before a hiring decision is made. For positions with a higher security class, you need to be a Swedish citizen but may have a foreign background.
